NOCO Building, Ginza

As part of the NOCO DESIGN TEAM, we worked on a building development on Suzuran-dori in Ginza 4-chome from the concept stage, asking what value a new building could add to Ginza.

Who should this building be chosen by? We joined from that concept stage, and handled everything from the facade design to the logo and signage. Construction was by Takenaka Corporation.

Layering the letterforms of NOCO, we created a soft typeface that matches the gentle sound of the word.

What Ginza, lined with buildings, lacks is a mass of wood. Stacking a new material — fire-resistant timber — we designed a striking facade that catches the eye of passersby.

The timber grows sparser toward the upper floors, hinting at the openness of the rooftop terrace.

The timber facade became the face of the building, drawing tenants who wanted to open a shop in this space. The design has had a major impact on the building's leasing.
